VC PROF. RASLI: NEW PROGRAMMES TO BE INTRODUCED

Zanzibar, Chukwani, (SUN): The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Amran Rasli said here new programmes on Science, Technology and Engineering will be introduced next academic year following Letters of Intent (LoIs) and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) SUMAIT University had signed with several universities abroad. Addressing the University’s 18th Graduation Ceremony at the Chukwani Campus, the Vice Chancellor said the University would embark on programmes related to Aquaculture, Food and Chemical Engineering adding that the current programmes offered at the University would be strengthened.
“We are all excited because 2019 will be an exciting year. We have signed LoIs and MoUs with several universities abroad to bring internationally recognized programmes leading to postgraduate studies at SUMAIT University”, the Vice Chancellor informed the congregation graced by the Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Riziki Pembe Juma on behalf of the Zanzibar President, Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein.
In November last year, SUMAIT had entered LoI with the Malaysian based Sultan Zainal Abidin University (UniSZA) in which the latter would franchise its degree and diploma programmes to the former.
Prof. Rasli advised the graduates and the continuing students to repay the loans they had received to pursue their studies saying that saying that a debt is a trust and its repayment is an act of worship, according to the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet (s.a.w.).
“Nina wasihi wanafunzi waliomaliza na wanafunzi wanaoendelea na masomo juu ya umuhimu wa kulipa madeni”, Prof. Rasli read part of his speech in Kiswahili while quoting Verses 282-283 of Surat al-Baqara.
The Vice Chancellor congratulated the 571 graduates who received their degrees, diplomas and certificates “after undertaking rigorous efforts to complete their courses of studies successfully”.
Of the graduates, 226 were conferred Degrees, 277 received Diplomas while 68 were awarded Certificates in the Sciences and the Arts.
