DR ALMUHAILAN: DIRECT AID SUPPORT WILL CONTINUE

Zanzibar, Chukwani, (SUN): SUMAIT University Council Chairman, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Muhailan has pledged Direct Aid continued support for the University until it becomes self-sufficient in its recurrent and development budgets.
Addressing the 19th Graduation ceremony here, the Chairman said Direct Aid will also support the University academic staff to attain highest qualifications for the University’s efforts to provide quality education.
“We want to reiterate our pledge that Direct Aid will continue to support SUMAIT University until it becomes self-sufficient in its recurrent and develop budgets”, Dr. Al-Muhailan said.
“We will support the University’s academic staff to attain the highest academic qualifications in our effort to provide quality education at the University”, the Chairman said and added, “We will also support the young student researchers with highest GPAs but who face financial constraints to implement their projects.”
Dr. Al-Muhailan thanked the United Republic of Tanzania, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) for their support to solve the problems facing the young SUMAIT University.
“Through their respective Higher Education Students Loan Boards, the two governments support the University by providing loans for students joining this university as they do with other universities. We appreciate their support”, said Dr. Al-Muhailan.
During the Graduation, the University’s first Chancellor, Dr. Amani Abeid Karume conferred awards to 354 graduates of whom 237 received degrees, 59 received ordinary diplomas while 58 received certificates in the Arts and Sciences.
