ZANZIBAR GOVERNMENT COMMENDS UNIVERSITY’S EDUCATION CONTRIBUTION

THE Zanzibar Government has commended the Abdulrahman Al-SUMAIT University for its enormous contribution on the isles education sector.
Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Riziki Pembe Juma said the University has produced considerable number of graduate teachers who were now serving in Zanzibar, Tanzania Mainland and other parts of Africa.
Since its inception as the College of Education Zanzibar (UCEZ) from which SUMAIT University grew, 4,183 students graduated in the Arts and Sciences from the academic year 2000/22001 and 2018/2019.
“This is a notable achievement in the SUMAIT University efforts to promote higher education in Zanzibar”, the Minister said in a speech read by Deputy Minister, Simai Mohamed Said during the University’s 19th Graduation last Thursday.
The Minister said the Ministry highly valued the University’s efforts in producing graduate teachers, adding, “My Ministry cannot ignore these efforts at all”.
“The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, in general and my Ministry in particular highly appreciates the efforts of Direct Aid who finance this University for their efforts to complement the development of higher education in Zanzibar”, the Minister said.
“My Ministry highly appreciates the tremendous efforts that SUMAIT University has been doing in the development of higher education in Zanzibar”, the Minister added.
During the Graduation, the University’s first Chancellor, Dr. Amani Abeid Karume conferred awards to 354 graduates of whom 237 received degrees, 59 received ordinary diplomas while 58 received certificates in the Arts and Sciences.
