Zanzibar, Chukwani, January 24, (SUN): Three scholars appeared before the SUMAIT University Council ordinary meeting held here recently for an interview of the Vice Chancellor post which has remained vacant for quite sometime now. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Muhailan who is also the Chairman of University Council.

The SUMAIT University Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Rashed Hikmany did not give much details of the post contestants but hinted that two interviewees were Tanzanians while one  was a foreigner.

Prof. Hikmany who did not contest for the post said the winner would be announced by the University’s competent authority at a date which he could not know.

The post of the Vice Chancellor which was announced last year required a candidate with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from a recognized University who has attained a rank of Professor/Associate Professor with at least seven (7) years’ experience in a Senior Academic Position and Management.

Further, the post required a candidate of an outstanding internationally recognized record of scholarship and academic leadership with evidenced extensive publications in scholarly, refereed journals and books.

In addition the candidate should have had a track record of successful university academic, administrative and financial management and a capacity to promote learning, research and community service in a competitive environment.

Also, the position should be held by a candidate with an understanding  and commitment to academic excellence with  high ethical standards, integrity and professionalism.
