COUNCIL APPOINTS NEW VICE CHANCELLOR

Zanzibar, Chukwani, (SUN): The SUMAIT University Council has appointed Professor Dr Amran bin Md Rasli from Malaysia, as the new Vice Chancellor with effect from 1st July 2018.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) (Statistics) degree from California State University, Chico, California (1983), Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) award from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, Missouri (1985), Diploma in Qualitative Research Methodology from Copenhagen Business School (2004) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Society, Business and Globalization from Roskilde University, Denmark (2005).

Professor Amran, a distinguished and wide knowledgeable scholar in Business Studies, has extensively researched, published, authored and lectured since 1989, served in various academic and professional bodies in various capacities and attended various national, regional and international conferences in Malaysia and abroad.

In the last ten years (2008-2017),  Professor Amran  published 170 articles in various reputed research journals inside Malaysia and abroad, authored and co-authored six books and contributed chapters in seven books.

Between 1991 and June 2018, Professor Amran attended more than 60 national, regional and international conferences and was a conference speaker, panelist and moderator in more than 50 conferences.

Professor Amran is still active in doctoral supervision having graduated 53 PhD scholars as of June 2018. He had been invited as visiting professor or academic advisor in various universities in Malaysia and abroad including the following:

Visiting Professor, University College of Engineering and Technology, Pahang, Malaysia (2003-2005), Academic Advisor, Indian Institute of  Risk Management, Hyderabad, India, (2004), Guest Professor,  Hebei University, China (2010-2011), Visiting Professor, Kaunas Technological University, Lithuania (2014), Visiting Scholar, National Central University, Taoyuan, Taiwan (2015) and Visiting Scholar, National Chen Kung University, Tainan,
Taiwan (2015).

He was also Visiting Scholar, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surabaya, Indonesia (2015), Visiting Scholar, Universitas Bung Hatta, Indonesia (2016), Visiting Scholar, Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Punjab, Pakistan (2016), Adjunct Associate Professor, University of Southern Australia’s Doctorate in Business Administration Programme (2009-2013) and an Adjunct Professor at Asia E-University since 2015.

Professor Dr Amran Rasli owns a copyright on conference management system and several other research frameworks and questionnaires. He was director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a spin-off company that organized training and conferences nationally and abroad. He also liaised, planned and conducted entrepreneurship activities with funding agencies to ensure long term sustainability and impact for the entrepreneurs and the agencies concerned.

Professor Amran joins SUMAIT University from the Faculty of Management, Universiti Technologi Malaysia (UTM), where he was the dean. He taught postgraduate students, supervised doctoral students, conducted research projects and published for journals as per  universities requirements.
