Zanzibar, Chukwani, (SUN), January 12: Preparations for the SUMAIT University 17th Graduation to be held on Wednesday, January 17, are on top gear as various sub-committees formed for the ceremony presented their reports to the Organizing Committee meeting last week.

The Publicity Sub-Committee informed the meeting that it was through with all its tasks including invitations, media announcements and display banners. The University campus has been neatly cleaned.

Graduands have been instructed to attend the graduation rehearsal on Tuesday, January 16, for the necessary briefings without which they will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.

This is the first batch of SUMAIT University graduands after the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) had in 2014, raised the University status from the University College of Education Zanzibar affiliated to the Sudan based International University of Africa (IUA) in 1998.

The University’s Council Chairman, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Muhailan will confer and present Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates to more than 700 graduands who completed their studies during the academic year 2016/2017.

SUMAIT University offers degree programmes in Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science with Education, Bachelor of Arts with Education and Bachelor of Arts in Counseling and Psychology. It also conducts Diploma and Certificate Programmes under the University’s Continuing Education Unit.

In 2017, SUMAIT University was ranked one of the top 31 and 200 universities occupying the 6th and 179th  ranks in Tanzania and Africa respectively (
