Zanzibar, Chukwani, (SUN), January 11:  Over 700 graduands from Abdulrahman Al-Sumait University (SUMAIT University) will be awarded Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates at the 17th Graduation Ceremony to be held at the University’s Campus of Chukwani on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.

This is the first batch of graduands since the University became fully fledged on May 14, 2014 after the Tanzania Commission of Universities (TCU) approval.  Prior to the award of University status, students graduated at the Khartoum based International University of Africa (IUA).

The University’s Council Chairman, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Muhailan will confer and present Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates at a ceremony to be attended by local and international dignitaries including diplomats.

SUMAIT University was built on the foundation of the former University College of Education Zanzibar (UCEZ) affiliated to the IUA in 1998.

SUMAIT University offers degree programmes in Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science with Education, Bachelor of Arts with Education and Bachelor of Arts in Counseling and Psychology.

In 2017, SUMAIT University was ranked one of the top 31 and 200 universities occupying the 6th and 179th  ranks in Tanzania and Africa respectively. (
