By Burhani Muhunzi, SUMAIT University
Zanzibar, Chukwani, SUN: The SUMAIT University Library has completed the first phase of the intensive Information Literacy Training for the newly admitted students.
The University Librarian, Khamis Mwitumbe said here the training covered library related skills including membership, services provided, available reading materials and the e-resource accessibility.
He said the training was important for new and continuing students for the effective use of the library especially in accessing information through the e-resource facility.
Mwitumbe observed that knowledge of basic skills in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Information Technology (IT) would to a large extent enable the students to use the library with ease.
According to the librarian, constant use of the available facilities in the library would remove what he called library-phobia which is observed among the new and continuing students.
The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU), National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) and National Examinations Council (NECT) has this academic year approved more than 400 names for Degree, Diploma and Certificate programmes at the University.
SUMAIT University provides Bachelor of Science with Education, Bachelor of Arts with Education and similar programmes at the diploma and certificate levels.
