SUMAIT UNIVERSITY LIBRARY JOINS PRETORIA CPD PROGRAMME

Zanzibar, Chukwani, (SUN) – The SUMAIT University Librarian Khamis Hamad Mwitumbe has joined a month-long Continuing Professional Development Programme (CPD) Training, at the University of Pretoria, South Africa between October 28 and November 25, 2017.
According to Mwitumbe, the programme entitled, “Enhancing Librarians ICT Skills for Research Enablement in African Universities is intended to equip African librarians with advance knowledge and practical skills in line with the emerging world technological advancement.
In an e-mail dispatch from University of Pretoria, Mwitumbe said the training covers several areas in which participants have opportunity to share knowledge and practical experiences.
The areas covered include: Working with social media in educational perspectives, researching with e-resources accessibility and utilization, website architecture, information retrieval and information literacy services.
Other areas are mobile utilization in educational perspectives, cloud computing, information management and organization, open access and open repository, digitization of library services and research data management.
CPD is affiliated to the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of Pretoria, funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and hosted by the Department of Information Science.
The programme is conducted in short courses, workshops and conferences, to provide advanced skills on the ongoing professional and technical education outside the formal academic programmes.
SUMAIT University library has a large computer room which can serve about 80 users at a time and who can search and share electronic information through various search engines, gate ways and data bases. Also, it has special computers for students with special needs.
