SUMAIT UNIVERSITY URGED TO STRENGTHEN COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY COURSES

Zanzibar, Chukwani, (SUN): The SUMAIT University has been urged to strengthen the Counseling Psychology course to meet the increasing demand of counseling services in public and private sectors.
The Zanzibar Minister of Information, Tourism and Heritage, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo said here counseling is cross-cutting and its demand is felt in all sectors.
Opening a Career Counseling Fair organized by the University’s Counseling Psychology Student Organization, the Minister urged for the sensitization of counseling services to minimize various social evils currently facing the society including drug addiction largely among the youth.
“There is no sector in our society that does not need counseling services”, the Minister stressed and pledged to advocate the engagement of counselors in the public sector.
He advised the Zanzibar Association of Counselors to come up with feasible activities that will solve social problems to register its presence and importance in the society.
The one-day Career Counseling Fair which was initiated and organized by the Counseling Psychology students at the University Campus, attracted the participation of dozens of public and private institutions.
