Circulation Section
Members
of the University have the right to borrow books from the library upon presentation
of current library borrowing cards which should strictly be used by their
bearers. Lost borrowing cards should be reported immediately. The borrowed
materials must be returned on or before the due date or earlier if recalled by
Librarian.
Students
and members of the administrative staff will be allowed to borrow books for two
weeks while members of the academic staff will be allowed to borrow books for
four months of the semester duration.
Any
borrower, who fails to return or renew a book on due date shall be liable to a
fine of shs.500/- per book per delayed extra days. The overdue notice will be
sent by the Librarian but under any circumstances he will not be held
responsible for further delivery.
Renewal
At the
end of the loan period borrowed books either be returned or renewed. Users may
only be allowed to renew once to allow other readers to use the book.
Loss and Damage of Library
Materials
The
damaged book will be charged as a lost book or the rebinding costs to be met by
the borrower. The cost will be calculated by replacement value of the book,
which may exceed the original cost in addition to administrative charges. Users
are strongly advised not to damage or deface the library property.
Reference Materials
Reference service is a core function of any
Academic Library. Sumait University Library provides reference services on
request. Users have different information needs that need to be solved by a
Librarian who has to follow a certain process including interviewing the user
to meet his exact needs. Questions cover direction, research, quick reference
and search. Thus, Sumait University Library provides special books for
reference like dictionaries and encyclopedia which cannot be taken away from
the library because they contain specific information. The reference section
accommodates about 200 students with up-to-date reference books and e-library
hall with more than 50 computers for the user’s electronic learning.
E-Library Section
The University Library has a large computer
room with more than 50 pcs connected to internet. They can be used to interrupt
learning as well as searching for various materials on electronic format. A
free Wi-Fi network service is available for 24 hours. Users have the
opportunity to search and share electronic information through various search
engines and gateways. It provides E-resources user can access through online
database (AGORA, HINARI, OARE and ARDI) and internet. Electronic library is to
be used strictly for academic reference.

User Education
The
library management organizes user education programs including courses on
information literacy, use and preservation of the library materials to ensure
that library resources are fully utilized.
Provision of Seating and
Study Facilities
Our
library provides seating facilities for up to 140 readers at a time.
Conference Room
The
library houses a furnished, ventilated, lighted and air-conditioned meeting
room to conduct presentations, consultancies and discussions comfortably.
